While clearly the 12.9” shows more information on the larger screen, it was not nearly as pronounced as I expected. I put both side-by-side and used all the apps and websites that I normally use, in both laptop mode and tablet mode. After holding it for a bit, my hand got tired to the point where I had to rest the iPad on the tray table to keep playing. It seemed kind of big to be used this way, but I was just getting used to a new device. For each of these, I pulled the iPad off the MKB and held it in portrait orientation. I played some games on the plane: solitaire, crosswords, Spell Tower+. The extra screen real estate seemed nice to have. I enjoyed the full-sized keyboard (though I have no problems typing on the 11” MKB). I did some writing on the plane using the MKB and it was great. I watched Greyhound and Fireball from Apple TV+, both in HDR. Watching HDR movies on the plane was fantastic. The size and weight didn’t feel that different. I didn’t think so looking at others with their devices. The iPad with MKB fit fine on the tray table, but I wondered if it would fit in a regular coach seat, with the seat in front reclined. Oh well, I kind of like getting new gadget bags! I had to get a bigger bag, as my small messenger for the 11” would not hold the 12.9”. When it arrived, I set it up and the next day took it (and only it) on my first post-COVID trip for a week.
